Ciggy

Bones are full of lead Heavy weighted soul, awake in the evenings Plagued by a cigarette

Takes a drag like he’s just gotten home Because he’s working today And he’s awake in evenings Just got to go be alone

And when the day comes On his knees he’ll beg you stay But a job ago There‘s dinner gone cold

Left, and leaving— friends, but the only one who stays Is the one who’s gotta go

Now he’s done and gone Plagued and alone

Now he’s out here breathing Cold air, smoke left — two boxes in the can. Shivering.

He pleads for one more

One who stays

But this is no cigarette And he’s got work in the morning

For a sun-setting evening sets again, And no one’s around to catch the sunlight fleeting.

So he’s back again today. Mud on the carpet. A day has gone away.
